Stable neighborhoods where city residents of all walks of life can maintain secure housing are crucial. To fix housing disparities, we must address affordable housing availability and landlord discrimination.

Affordable Housing Availability

• The deregulatory policies championed by our current city government have failed to stimulate new development. We can fix this by permanently dedicating funding to build social housing for workers at all income levels, providing rent relief for those facing large rent hikes, and buying out landlords to stop flips and rising rents.
• I enthusiastically support the Affordable Housing Guarantee Act on this November's ballot as a first step towards this important goal!
• In 2020, an overwhelming majority of San Francisco voters backed a tax on luxury real estate sales of $10M or more to fund affordable housing and rental assistance. This November, we will finish the job and ensure this crucial funding is used for housing we can all afford.
• The Affordable Housing Guarantee Act funds middle-income and low-income affordable housing in the form of innovative social housing. It does not apply to the first sale of newly built housing, so it won’t affect any new housing construction.
• The Affordable Housing Guarantee Act is real progress for ensuring housing for ALL in San Francisco!

Landlord Reform

• As San Franciscans, we unfortunately have seen landlords taking advantage of residential and small business tenants. It is time to level the playing field! We need to protect our neighbors from evictions and harassment, as well as mandate proper inspections to make sure our buildings are healthy and safe.
• For residents of San Francisco, landlord neglect is rampant across The City. Corporate landlords and their property management firms don’t hire enough maintenance staff to fix habitability needs for hundreds of thousands of tenants in The City.
• San Francisco must mandate landlord or property management firm hires, complying with the SF Rent Ordinance by providing weekly hours to maintenance staff and maintaining the millions of square feet of rental units occupied by tenants across The City.

Our neighborhood businesses need protection from eviction and predatory landlords. Commercial rent control laws for storefront & office leases must include:

• Standardization of commercial lease terms to make commercial leasing more manageable;
• Funding that makes commercial renting and owning more accessible for small businesses;
• Legal assistance for lease and rent negotiations to protect small businesses from predatory contracts and to prevent eviction.

We must also support neighborhood businesses in San Francisco by:

• Increasing & streamlining access to city resources, grants, and programs to help nascent & legacy small businesses thrive;
• Investing in all San Franciscans, including providing access to capital & opportunities to start new businesses;
• Creating a Public Bank to fund small businesses routinely excluded from corporate financial institutions.

I was raised to understand that “Never Again” meant never again for all people.

At the very outset of Israel's horrific, US-funded genocide of Palestinians in Gaza, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors passed one of the nation's first Ceasefire Resolutions by a resounding 8-3 majority. The racist, Islamophobic, and genocidal comments of Supervisor Matt Dorsey -  one of only three to vote “NO” on the Ceasefire Resolution - are also completely unacceptable. 

While the City and County of San Francisco has little official power over our federal government’s international policies, our local taxpayer dollars must NOT be used in any way to prop up, support, or enable the genocide and apartheid perpetrated by Israel.

As such, the City and County of San Francisco must divest completely and immediately from Israel. And we must not renew City Contracts with companies that do business with the government of Israel or in the state of Israel.

Did you know that billionaires pay lower tax rates than workers like you and me?

Trump gave uber-wealthy individuals and corporations like Amazon (Bezos), Tesla (Musk), Meta (Zuckerberg), and Alphabet (owned by Google) $4.5 TRILLION in tax cuts.

MAGA budget cuts have threatened California’s healthcare system and exploded the cost of health insurance for every San Franciscan.

We must vote YES on the billionaire tax on this November’s ballot to ensure that billionaires pay their fair share.

The billionaires in our city generate more than enough wealth to cover civic basics––but they and uber-wealthy corporations funnel our wealth into yachts, mansions, and airplanes. Beyond November, we must start using the trillions in wealth every San Franciscan helps create to cover what we need here in The City.

City resources––including maintaining and improving libraries, public health systems, community centers, roads, buses, trains, and parks––remain underfunded, even as San Franciscans generate trillions in personal wealth. If the billionaires want to live, own property, or do business in Our City, they must contribute their fair share in taxes towards the cost of the things we all need for a humane & healthy quality of life.

As the Trump administration attacks working people, dismantles the social safety net, threatens immigrants, targets LGBTQ+ communities, and pushes more families into crisis, San Francisco has a responsibility to fight for our values. We cannot double down on the same harm here.

Too many City Hall politicians are comfortable adopting budgets which harm working people and our neighborhoods. Tens of millions keep getting slashed from city services covering healthcare, HIV support, and resources for women, immigrants, seniors, and LGBTQ+ people. Services are being stripped from over 25,000 low-income families who rely on support to meet basic needs and avoid homelessness.

Reckless budget cuts destabilize communities across San Francisco.

We need City Hall to prioritize San Francisco’s values:

• Restoring essential community services;
• Protecting the nonprofit and City workers who make San Francisco’s recovery possible;
• Eliminating wasteful law enforcement overtime, mass arrests, jail expansion, and the illegal RESET Center.

Instead of doubling-down on Trump’s agenda, we must utilize resources to stabilize the city budget by:

• Using reserves as a temporary lifeline to prevent mass layoffs and protect the services we all rely upon;
• Raising revenue from wealthy corporations;
• Supporting long-term progressive revenue solutions;
• Rejecting tax breaks on luxury property sales. Workers pay taxes on our sandwiches. Real estate speculators can pay taxes on their property flips!

November’s progressive parcel tax for Muni is only a first step towards fulfilling the promise of San Francisco’s Transit First policy. District 6 may be The City’s most transit-friendly neighborhood, but traveling elsewhere means relying on an underfunded system that’s too slow, too infrequent, and too unreliable all too often. 

To meet the needs of District 6 (and all San Francisco) residents, we must:

• Provide more frequent service so residents can get transit when we need it;
• Restore the transit lines that connect us to the rest of the city;
• Create transit priority lanes to keep buses from getting stuck in traffic.

District 6 residents are plagued with both The City's worst air pollution and its highest concentration of traffic fatalities. Despite San Francisco’s Transit First policy, commuters are prioritized over community. To fix this we will:

• Widen sidewalks and remove traffic lanes to slow cars, making walking more pleasant, and crossing the street safer;
• Build traffic infrastructure to for safer street crossings;
• Expand our tree canopy to clean the air, reduce noise, and address increasing global temperatures;
• Invest in our residential alleys so kids can play close to home.

Wage theft, wage & hour violations, legally mandated breaks and meal times, reasonable accommodations, and decent working conditions are just some of the laws we need to protect workers in San Francisco. Unfortunately, many employers believe it is more profitable to break the law than comply with worker protections, because so few workers have access to legal guidance which would mandate lawful treatment.

All San Francisco workers must have a right to legal counsel for:

• The opportunity to enforce labor rights and work in safe and fair conditions;
• The ability to pursue employment claims ignored by the Office of Labor Standards Enforcement. 

The violence and misconduct unleashed by SFPD during the Trans Pride March and over Pride Weekend is unacceptable. And the shocking prosecutorial over-reach by the San Francisco District Attorney's office must be investigated by the SF Board of Supervisors.

San Franciscans are already beleaguered by Trump & MAGA politicians relentlessly attacking the LGBTQ+ community.

The SF Board of Supervisors must stand with LGBTQ+ residents of San Francisco and meet our demands:

1. Drop all the charges against those attendants of the Trans March and Stud Alley gathering.

2. Invest in community safety, not police

• We keep us safe: Community-led safety approaches are proven most effective and require sustained City funding. 

3. Replace police presence with civilian traffic management

• The City must mobilize the San Francisco Municipal Transit Agency (SFMTA) to manage traffic safety during marches and demonstrations.
